Bowa Loses Patience as Padres Fall

First baseman Steve Garvey was in surgery for two hours at Scripps Clinic on Saturday, and Dr. Paul Hirshman successfully reattached Garvey’s torn left biceps tendon. Garvey is scheduled to leave the hospital Monday. . . . Center fielder [Stan Jefferson], who walked twice, stole two bases and scored a run in Friday’s game, couldn’t play Saturday night because he had received a cortisone shot in his sore right shoulder earlier in the day. According to Manager [Larry Bowa], Jefferson should be able to play again in Montreal on Tuesday. . . . Infielder Tim Flannery, who tore ligaments in his right ankle, probably will come off the 21-day disabled list on Tuesday. “Every time I use it, it swells up,” Flannery said. “But it’ll probably be like that the rest of the year. ” To make room on the roster, the Padres will send either second baseman [Joey Cora], outfielder James Steels or infielder/outfielder Luis Salazar to Class AAA Las Vegas. . . .
